(1) Pointing Direction

It makes a difference whether a lever points towards the center or towards the rim.

In the diagram since the levers are two-faced, it is a inner lever for White and a outer lever for Black.

The inner lever for White is usually slightly superior to the outer lever of Black since it offers the initiative.

The lever within the two center files in the center lever diagram is basically neutral and so we call it a center lever.
