We Don't Want You If....
We have previously stated what kind of people we are looking for to join our club. We want people who are interested in improving their chess skills through study and a little help from their friends at the club. Now we will state what kinds of people who we don't want. We feel that winning the game of chess should be based on your chess skills. Just as in all the serious OTB tournament games, chess skills are what determines who wins, not internet gimmicks like premove. Those games are usually long standard games using long tournament time controls, and games that use increments.
We don’t want people who are only interested in improving their chess rating by gimmicks, luck, deception, fast time controls, frustrating their opponents with disconnections so that they may have time to study the game, and any other way that they can with out working for it through study and honest hard work. Lazy people please stay away, we don’t want you.
We don't want people who are more interested in trying to win a game because their opponent ran out of time rather than they were the superior chess player. Or are looking for their opponent to blunder because of time pressure. Usually these people are the ones that say "I don't play games with increments" And those that use premove, for the same results. Trying to "luck out" in a game of chess does little for ones integrity. We feel that the adherence to a code of values that are based on the hours spent in study for increasing ones chess skills should make the difference in whether one wins or loses. Not how fast one can make moves on the board. People who consistently play chess this way are not much better than what are commonly called "wood pushers".
We don't want people who appear to be suffering from, ADD, (Attention Deficient Disorder). People who seem to have the attention span of a small child. Usually these people complain if they have to read any thing longer than this paragraph. They also may only play "quick" games, like lighting or blitz.. They may also be the ones who are constantly looking for some bizarre opening to throw off their opponent for a quick win. They also are usually not interested in spending their time in reading or studying to increase their chess skills. We don't want people who have the attention span of a small child and are to lazy to read and put forth the effort needed to develop their chess skills.
We don't want people who are only interested in playing chess variants. Our game is Standard or Blitz with increments.
We don't want people who cannot or will not be a team player. Selfish people who are not willing to give of their time to help others are not wanted. Don't even think about joining if you are selfish and are not willing to help others succeed.
We don't want people who can not take criticisms with out resentment. Or are not willing to ask questions or are too proud to ask for help. How do you think you are ever going to learn any thing if others are not permitted to give you advice?
We don't want people with big egos. If your self-esteem prevents you from accepting criticism you will not be a team member either.
We don't want any kind of abusers or anyone who has or does disconnect in a lost position on purpose, and if we ever find out that you did you are history.
We don't want anyone with a attitude, or negative thinkers. If your going to succeed in this club, having a positive attitude is a must. Negative thinkers are also bad for the aura, the distinctive atmosphere it creates for all the other members around you. A positive attitude that has a luminous radiation to succeed can be a contagious infection towards helping all the other members
We don't want anyone who thinks that they can join this club to make others think that this is the reason that they have a high rating so that they might fool others that they are not using a computer to assist them in their games. (Yes, we have had them here)
We don't want unappreciative people. So many people today are completely devoid of being capable of expressing any kind of empathy for others. They seem to be unable to express any kind of appreciation towards others who do things for them. Apparently most of their lives they have obtained most every thing they ever wanted for free. When they were kids their dad must have said "here son is the keys to the car, It has a full tank of gas and here is $50 for you to take your girl out" For collage they got a Government grant for many thousands of dollars that they do not ever have to pay back. They download all the movies they want for free, they download all the music they want for free. And now they play chess on a server for free. Most every thing they want is some how just given to them.
They have been so accustomed to getting every thing for free, that it's a good bet that if some one would hand them a check out of the blue for $1,000, they would simple look at it expressionless, stuff it in their pocket and turn away quietly with out so much as a thank you or even a smile on their face. Their attitude seems to be, so you gave me a thousand bucks, so what, big deal! Is it any wonder that when some one shouts some thing like "Can any one tell me where I can find openings in PGN to download?" no one responds? May be its because usually when one does tell him where to find them, they don't even get the consideration of a "Thank You!"
The following is a list of undesirable personality traits of people who we don't want.
Attitude problem - arrogance - self-centered - egocentric - uncompromising - argumentative -
uncooperative - smugness - troublemaker - unimaginative - negative thinker- lazy -
lacking a sense of humor - inconsiderate - irresponsible - unappreciative - Aloof -
Unhelpful and dislikes helping others - Vindictive - belittling nature -
(People who belittle others, or make fun of others to booster their own self-esteem.)
And Finally:
If you can not appreciate all this work by not thoroughly reading all of the training materials, then the club members don't want you and more importantly, I don't want you either.
Why is it so important to read every thing? Because doing so will increase your knowledge in the basics and enable you to help the other members succeed, just like they in turn
will be helping you.
If any of the above has offended you, then we don't want you for that either.
We just don't want you unless you fit our requirements!
Has any of these strict requirements limited our choices? You bet it has! We may have eliminated many of the people on FICS for any consideration of them to ask for a membership here, but we don't care. We are only interested in finding a limited number of unselfish people, probably to no more than 50 members to join the club, and we are only interested in having those people who will make this club a success by their unselfish attitude in them being more interested in giving than receiving. It is this philosophy that will ensure our success.
Note: Please do not ask us how many members we now have in our club. This is privileged information for club members only.
Do you want to join this club because you are just curious as to what is to be found on our web site? Are you not really interested in improving your chess skills though reading what is here and the study of chess training materials? May be you hope to improve your chess rating and chess skills by just having others in our club spend their valuable time helping you to improve. Maybe you have no intentions of doing any serious reading of anything on this site, other than just a casual glance at a few items to satisfy your curiosity. If so please do not join this club, we don’t want you, because soon after you join and we find you were not sincere in reading the materials, your password will be pulled and you will be asked to leave never to return.
