The Sciatica Nerve
The Sciatic Nerve, is the longest and thickest nerve in your body. It runs from your lower spine, through your buttocks, and into our right leg and foot.
When the sciatic nerve becomes inflamed, it can cause numbness and tingling pain or it can become so inflamed it causes distressing, intense, excruciating pain around the clock in your lower back and leg to the extent that one can not lie, sit or stand in one position but for only a few minutes. The person is rendered conpletely helpless to do much of anything and the only medicine that is available to treat this pain is a sleeping pill so strong that the person is immediately knocked out unconscious for hours.

Treatments
A doctor will look at your overall health and focusing not only on our sciatic nerve problem but also your entire lifestyle. This total approach to wellness helps determine the best treatment for the problem. But again this may take years and still never really cure it for all time. Having reoccurring pain problems is just expected but the hope is that in time they will become less frequent.
Some doctors will recommend surgery to remove the bulging disc or fuse the discs together. This is a last resort solution and of course once done is permanent for life. The problem is that later in life this type of surgery is likely to cause other problems that may be cause for more corrective surgery.
What causes other low back pain?
Your low back is one of the three natural curves of our spine. If that area lacks strength or flexibility, your entire back loses support. This can put pressure on joints, nerves and disc.
The vertebrae are bones that protect your spinal cord. They can be forced or locked out of their proper position or get misaligned putting pressure on the sciatic nerve.
Ligaments and muscles are supportive tissues that can be stretched, torn or weakened causing lower back pain.
You discs are shock absorbers that can bulge, rupture or wear down and if they expand enough cause pressure against the sciatic nerve.
The sciatic nerve is the biggest nerve in your body that carries the body's messages, and like other nerves can get stretched, pinched or irritated and cause an unbelievably amount of pain around the clock for days on end.

The sciatic nerve becomes inflamed if a bone or vertebra in your lower back isn't moving properly or is out of position, the joint can become inflamed become enlarged, and cause pressure on the sciatic nerve which in turn causes the pain.
If one of the cushions or discs between your vertebrae is bulging, or enlarged to the point of putting pressure on the sciatic nerve it will irritate it and cause pain.
If a muscle in your lower back or buttocks becomes inflamed or tightening in spasms around the sciatic nerve it can put a tremendous amount of pressure on the sciatic nerve and cause a great deal of pain.
Chiropractic treatments try to treat the causes of the physical problems, such as low-back, hip and leg pain rather than just the symptoms. But usually the treatments are just temporary and need to be repeated indefinitely.
Your lower back is a vulnerable area, constantly under the strain of supporting your upper body. Poor posture, injuries, wear and tear, hereditary weakness or excess weight can cause a variety of painful low back problems.
